Deborah & Peter Carroll bought the Lenz Winery in 1988, ten years after its founding, and when the Long Island wine community comprised fewer than ten established wineries. First drawn out to the east end because of sailing, they quickly fell in love with the budding wine community, wanting to make a mark on Long Island wines themselves.

Kenneth Deegan
Raised on Long Island’s North Fork, Ken has long had an appreciation for this special place. Most of Ken’s career has revolved around horticulture in some form. From his first job as a boy mowing lawns, to his education in geography studying soil and plant science, his trajectory always steered towards tending plants in the outdoors. Ken has been with us for nearly a decade, working all facets of grape growing. He accepted the role of vineyard manager for Lenz in 2025 where he continues to tend to the land that makes our award winning wines, maintaining the Lenz tradition of giving holistic, individual attention to each and every vine.

Thomas Spotteck
After serving in the USMC, Thomas transformed his hobby of brewing and fermenting into a career as a winemaker. In addition to Long Island, Thomas has premium experience in Columbia Valley, WA and Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Dorothy-Dean Thomas
“Dee Dee’s” parents instilled in her a love of wine very early: “Wine was always a part of the conversation, part of every dinner and celebration.” Since joining Lenz in 2007, she’s worn many hats–subscriber program, events, marketing, advertising–the list goes on and on!
