TASTING NOTES

ES Cab S

2017 Estate Selection
Cabernet Sauvignon

Our Estate Selection wines are often made in years when we considered making an Old Vines designation wine but felt the vintage didn’t quite warrant it.  As an aside, that often makes Lenz Estate Selection wines a great purchase as it delivers near-Old Vines quality for nearly half the price.

This particular wine has a very nice color; darker than the regular 2017 Cab.  The aromas seem to be of raspberries and wild strawberries; but also minerally, with one taster noting a ‘slate’ character.  The wine is still improving with age and as we tasted it, it seemed ‘tight’.

Flavors are big!  But also soft.  There’s rich, dark plum.  Plus dark cherries and ripe pomegranate.  Others spotted powdered cocoa, and red currants.  It’s a delicious wine.
