On April 2nd, ten leading wine-industry professionals, including two Masters of Wine, gathered at Le Bernardin restaurant in Manhattan for the annual Lenz comparative blind tasting. The most anticipated flight, featuring Lenz Old Vines Merlot and Château Pétrus, saw typically impressive results. All four wines scored in the 90’s - - a score Robert Parker reserves for wines that he deems to be “outstanding . . . of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.”
This year’s tasting also included our Old Vines Chardonnay which more than held its own against the formidable white Burgundy from Olivier Leflaive’s Batard-Montrachet vineyard. In fact, the 2005 Old Vines Chardonnay ended ahead of the Leflaive by 3 points.
Sommelier Aldo Sohm, recently awarded the distinction of America’s Best Sommelier by the American Sommelier Association, oversaw the set-up and presentation of each flight.
